Judgmental Voices Almost Robbed Me of My Health

Judgmental Voices Almost Robbed Me of My Health

Have you ever talked yourself out of doing something that was good for you? I have. And I almost did it again a couple of months ago. My health wasn’t where it should be. My weight was the highest it’s ever been (almost as high as my peak pregnancy weight, only no baby inside this time). I was constantly tired and starting to feel the burden of carrying the extra pounds when I walked up stairs or went for a long walk. Miserable. Over the past year I had tried a variety of healthy eating plans, diets, programs, exercise routines, etc. Nothing was working. In honesty, my consistency was not there and I always had excuses. The voices in my head would tell me that if I didn’t release the weight through a Keto-Paleo-Organic-like method, then it wouldn’t be the “right way.” This judgmental voice convinced me that all the poor food choices I was making were OK, because they were “whole/real” foods. Despite the fact my portions were totally out of whack.

Through each round the voices came up that I had been battling, memories surfaced of random times I felt less than, scared and even one memory of failing at a diet before had bubbled up…”

Then one day, I saw a Facebook post of a friend I hadn’t connected with in quite some time. It was a cute photo of her holding several books (she’s a teacher) and I thought, “she must be clearing out her classroom but man, she’s lookin’ great!” So I actually stopped to read the post and she wasn’t just carrying books. She was carrying the 20 lbs she lost in the last four weeks! Of course I was curious as to what she was doing to achieve such success and reached out to her. She told me of this program she’s been on and how it shifts your daily habits, including mindset, to help you reach optimal health. In this program, you eat five of the company’s meals and prepare one healthy protein/vegetable heavy meal a day in the first phase. Right there she lost me as all the negative chatter began. “Those programs don’t work in the long run. That’s not sustainable. It’s too expensive. It can’t be that healthy if you aren’t eating ‘real’ food!” Yup, that judgmental chatter took over. Once I was able to tune back in, she confided that she too had the same thoughts and decided to give it 30 days as a test. Why? Because she too was fed up with how she felt and look. She too was miserable.

We hung up and after much back and forth of the pros and cons, I knew I couldn’t rationalize or think my way through this one. So, I turned to my oils and took myself through an Aroma Freedom Technique (AFT) session. My goal was, “I can permanently release the excess weight I carry with this program.” Through each round the voices came up that I had been battling, memories surfaced of random times I felt less than, scared and even one memory of failing at a diet before had bubbled up, and in the end, after the last round when I inhaled Release (a specific essential oil blend from Young Living designed to help release emotions, like anger) I felt the end of the battle. No more conflict. At this point in the AFT process, you set an affirmation to seal in this new mindset you’ve realized. My affirmation statement: I am worthy of this program. WOAH, say what? I am worthy? Yes. In all that negative chatter, it came down to me actually not feeling worthy to spend the money, to try something different, to put in the effort and make the tough food choices along the way. I sealed in this affirmation with a power pose and set my first action step: sign up for the program. Done!

I am so grateful I dissolved those voices, thoughts and memories. They were there to protect me but really just holding me back. That self-judgment was hurting me and I was already in pain. Now I am thriving, have more energy than ever and doing exceedingly well on the program! When I compare my progress to others, some voices try to creep back in, but I shut them down quickly with my Aroma Freedom Technique skills and essential oils. Why, because I am worthy!

(For those curious, in seven weeks I have released 21 lbs of excess fat. Trying it the “right” way in 2017, I stayed the exact same obese weight for a year. Find a way to be healthy and happy and try not to judge your process.)
